A sliding door rarely fails overnight. The rollers wear down bit by bit, and the door tells you — if you know what to listen and feel for. Here are the five signs we see most often in Dubai homes.

1. The door feels heavy
This is the first sign and the most common. A door that used to glide with one finger now needs a real push. The rollers have flattened or their bearings have seized, so you are dragging the panel instead of rolling it.
2. Grinding or scraping noise
Healthy rollers are nearly silent. Grinding means metal on metal — the wheel coating is gone and the roller body is scraping the track. Every slide makes it worse.
3. The door jumps or wobbles in the track
Worn rollers do not sit evenly, so the panel rocks as it moves. If the door jumps the track entirely, stop using it — a derailed panel can fall.
4. The door sits crooked
Look at the gap between the sliding panel and the frame. If it is wider at the top than the bottom (or vice versa), one side’s rollers have collapsed and the door has dropped.
5. The lock will not catch
A dropped door misaligns the lock. If your sliding door suddenly will not lock, check the rollers before blaming the lock — this is one of the most misdiagnosed faults we see.
