Walk into any hardware shop and you will see rolls of mesh that all look roughly the same. Fit the wrong one on a Dubai window, though, and you will learn the difference fast: some meshes clog with dust in weeks, some turn brittle in the sun, and some let the tiniest sand flies waltz straight through.
Here is a plain-English rundown of the mesh types we fit, and which ones actually hold up here.

The Main Mesh Types
- Standard fiberglass mesh: The everyday choice for most windows. Flexible, easy to fit, and fine for keeping out mosquitoes and flies. It does the job in shaded windows, but the sun ages it faster on south-facing glass.
- Fine-weave insect mesh: A tighter weave that stops smaller insects, including the tiny sand flies that slip through standard mesh. The trade-off is slightly less airflow, so we recommend it mainly for bedrooms.
- Aluminium mesh: Tougher and more rigid than fiberglass. It handles sun exposure well and resists tearing from pets or rough handling. A solid pick for ground-floor villas and homes with cats.
- Pet-resistant mesh: A heavier, thicker weave made for homes where claws meet screens. If your cat treats the window net as a climbing frame, this is the mesh you want.
- Solar and dust-filtering mesh: Denser weaves that cut glare and catch more dust. Useful on windows facing busy roads, though they need more regular cleaning to keep airflow up.
Which One for Your Home?
For most Dubai apartments, standard fiberglass on shaded windows and fine-weave in bedrooms covers it. Villas with gardens and pets do better with aluminium or pet-resistant mesh. When we do flyscreen mesh replacement in Dubai, we look at each window’s sun exposure and recommend the mesh that fits that spot.
