Most Dubai villa patio doors are single tempered glass. Some newer builds, especially in communities like Emirates Hills, use double-glazed units. Both can take a dog flap. The question is which one you have, and what changes with each.

Here is the honest comparison, so you know what to expect from dog door glass options installed in Dubai homes before anyone measures your door.

Single and double glazed glass panels compared in a Dubai workshop

Single Glazed: The Common Case

One pane of tempered glass, usually 8 to 10mm in a patio door. This is the simplest dog flap job: we measure, the factory cuts a new pane with the flap opening, and we swap it in. The panel is light, the frame rarely needs adjusting, and the flap seals directly against one glass surface.

Best for: standard villa sliding and hinged patio doors, which make up the bulk of dog flap jobs we do.

Double Glazed: The Insulated Case

Two panes with a sealed air gap between them. The dog flap needs an opening through both panes, so the factory builds a whole new sealed unit with the flap formed in from the start. More work at the factory, same clean result at your home.

Best for: homes where you want to keep the insulation and the quieter feel of double glazing. Nothing about the flap compromises it.

Which One Do You Have?

  • Check the glass edge. A single dark line means one pane. Two lines with a gap means double glazed.
  • Notice the temperature. Double-glazed doors feel less hot to the touch on the inside during a Dubai afternoon.
  • Look at the frame depth. Double-glazed frames are noticeably chunkier to hold the thicker unit.

Does It Change the Flap Choice?

Not really. The same flap models work in both. What changes is only how the panel is made. If you are still deciding on the basics, start with what Dubai dog owners should know about glass door flaps.
