Dog doors raise practical questions, especially in Dubai where most of them go into glass. Here are the answers we give every week.
From pet door specialists in Dubai: the dog door questions, answered.

What size does my dog need?
Measure your dog, not the breed chart. Measure the widest point (usually shoulders or hips) and the height at the shoulder. The flap should be a couple of inches wider and taller than those measurements so your dog passes through comfortably without squeezing.
Can big dogs have a door in glass?
Yes. XL flaps fit into glass panels and sliding door inserts, as long as the panel is large enough to take the opening. We check this at the measuring visit and tell you straight if your door can take it.
Is it secure?
Lockable flaps let you close the door fully at night or when you are out. For sliding door inserts, we add a security bar so the sliding panel cannot be forced open past the insert.
I rent. Can I still have one?
Yes. Removable insert panels fit into your sliding door track with no drilling and no changes to the glass. When you move, the insert comes out and the door is exactly as it was.
Will it work in double glazing?
Yes, with a purpose-made sealed unit. We build the flap opening into the new unit so the insulation and the seal stay intact.
