If your patio door is double glazed, you have probably been told a dog flap is impossible. It is not. It just needs a different method, because you cannot cut into a sealed glass unit any more than you can cut tempered glass on site.

The answer is a factory-made replacement unit. Our team handles dog flap installations in double glazed glass doors in Dubai by building a new sealed unit with the flap opening already formed, then swapping it into your existing frame.

How a Double-Glazed Dog Flap Unit Is Made

  1. We measure the existing unit. Overall size, glass thickness on each side, the spacer gap between the panes, and how the unit sits in the frame.
  2. The factory builds a new sealed unit. Both panes are cut with the flap opening before toughening, then bonded together with the spacer bar and sealed, so the insulation stays intact.
  3. We swap the unit and fit the flap. The new unit drops into your frame, the dog flap is fixed through both panes, and the edges are sealed against dust and moisture.

What Stays the Same as Before

Your insulation does not suffer. The sealed unit keeps its air gap and its thermal behaviour, because it was manufactured as one piece. From the outside, the only visible change is the flap itself. The door opens, closes, and locks exactly as it did before.

Will It Fog Up Inside?

A properly manufactured sealed unit will not. Fogging happens when a seal fails on a site-built bodge. Factory sealing keeps moisture out of the air gap, so the glass stays clear. That is why we never try to modify your existing unit.

Is Your Door Double Glazed?

  • Look at the edge of the glass. Two panes with a spacer between them means double glazing.
  • Tap it gently. Double-glazed units sound duller and deeper than a single pane.
  • Check for a spacer bar. A thin metal or plastic strip running around the glass edge is the giveaway.

Still unsure what you have? Our guide to glass dog doors for large breeds also covers how flap size interacts with different glass types.
